Principles of Writing - Self Publishing

horizontal rule

Principles of writing: The text of your book should be keyed (typed) into a computer. Use any word processing package providing that it will save your files as ASCII text (a standard language used to process computer text in another software package).

If this is your first attempt at writing your own book, here are a few simple principles of writing to follow:

bulletWrite simply and directly, avoiding jargon and
unnecessary technical terms.
bulletAlways keep your readers in mind.
bulletDon't underestimate your own knowledge; something that might seem obvious to you - the expert - won't necessarily be so to your reader.

Checking your copy

Get someone to proof read your book for mistakes
(grammar, spelling, etc.). Even if your word processor has a spell checker, there are all kinds of errors it will not detect.

It's also a good idea to get someone you know well to go through the final text and give you an honest
opinion of how it reads.

Even while you are writing, you should be thinking ahead to the production process.
